Empty Bowls - Dallas
|
| |
|
Empty Bowls is an annual fund raising event held by the North Texas Food Bank which is strongly supported by DAW. It is held at the Myerson Symphony Hall where top Dallas area chefs and restaurants provide gourmet soups, breads, and deserts to guests who contribute to the event. Proceeds from Empty Bowls go directly to NTFB; last year over $165,000 was collected, enough to provide 650,000 meals for needy families in the Dallas area.

While guests receive an excellent lunch prepared by famous chefs, the high point for most attendees is getting to select one of the 3000 Empty Bowls created by local potters and wood turners. There is also the option for guests to upgrade, for an additional fee, from a group of select bowls. Or, they can trade up to a very nice piece in a silent auction.

| |
| Most of the Empty Bowls are donated by Dallas area potters and members of Dallas Area Woodturners. DAW members donated over 200 turned bowls to the 2010 EMPTY BOWLS event. The DAW goal for the 2011 event is at least 250 EMPTY Bowls. Toward that goal, twenty-two DAW members have pledged to each contribute 12 bowls this year. |

The 13th annual Empty Bowls will be at the Myerson Symphony Hall on Friday, February 25, 2011, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Tickets for Empty Bowls are $35.00 and can be purchased on-line at http://www.ntfb.org/d_empty_bowls_info.cfm. The January 2011 DAW meeting is the final date for submitting Empty Bowls for the 2011 event.
